Mozambique confirms non-participation in the African Athletics Championships in Mauritius

Forty-two countries have confirmed their participation in the 22nd African Senior Athletics Championships, scheduled for 08-12 June, in Mauritius. Mozambique is one of those countries, although it has not released the list of those called up for this continental competition.

According to the Confederation of African Athletics (CAA), the list can still grow until the end of the registration deadline set for 2 May, with the expectation that more countries will confirm their participation.

Three countries, namely Eritrea, Sudan and Tanzania, have expressed their intention to participate in the continent's biggest athletic event, but have not yet submitted their admission procedures to the Mauritius Athletics Federation (MAA).

Meanwhile, another nine have not yet announced their participation, namely Botswana, Cameroon, São Tomé and Príncipe, Central African Republic, Equatorial Guinea, eSwatini, Gambia, Mali and Mauritania, and are expected to do so before the deadline. , that is, until the 2nd of May.

While the African Athletics Championships in Mauritius does not take place, Mozambique will host the African Cross Country Championships this year. Mozambique was chosen by the African Confederation of Athletics (CAA) to host this year's edition of the competition, which is scheduled to take place from 12 to 13 March, initially in the district of Marracuene.

The Mozambican Athletics Federation guarantees that it is working with partners to make this event a true event in the sport on the African continent.
